Confusing Small Talk At Work

Posted on July 2nd, 2009 - 12:47 pm - 2 comments

It’s summer time, so there’s alot of small talk about this ‘n that. And I’m no better. For instance, at work today:

Boss #1: So, as I remember, you’ve started to watch more football (read: soccer), right?
Me: Ugh, yeah?
Boss #1: Well, I was wondering if you’re going to join the rest of us on the Fantasy Football League?
Me: Yeah, sure, whatever…
Boss #1: What English club are you rooting for?
Me: Manchester United. I think.

Boss #1 grumbles something about kids these days
Boss #2 laughs mockingly

Me: Yeah, hey! What? What’s wrong with that?
Boss #2: Oh, nothing. There’s nothing wrong with rooting on the winners, you know.
Me: Hey! I was rooting for Michael Schumacher before he quit Formula-1!
Boss #2: (low, sarcastic voice) They always got to go for the best ones, innit?
Me: Then again, I also liked Mika Hakkinen when he was racing.
Boss #1: That reminds me, [some guy] quit yesterday. He’s the guy who always won at the wine lottery.
Me: Oh. Then again, when he left all the younger fellas took over.
Boss #2: What, he left?
Me and Boss #1: He left years ago. Then came the rise of Raikkonen and Hamilton.
Boss #2: No, not him. I meant [some guy]. He quit yesterday?
Boss #1: Oh him. Yeah he left for another job.
Me: I’m guessing there”ll be wine and cash prizes, right?
Boss #1: Huh?
Me: The fantasy football league.
Boss #1: Yeah. Of course! What do you think we are? Savages?!
Me: I’m in.

For those who expected midgets in this post: I’m sorry.

  1. Yeees, Fantasy Football League. Let me know if you need any advice picking your team. As long as you agree to share at least 25% of the prize with me. Or just send me a nice greeting card with balloons and perhaps a teddybear on it. That would be sweet.

There is no doubt in the World that I need advice, if I’m supposed to achieve some sort of victory.

All advice will be appreciated greatly since I’ll be trying to spend the least time logged in at work.
