Concerning The Grip of Death

As we got to see our beloved hero Solid Snake (aka Old Snake or “Shouldn’t He Be Dead By Now?”-Snake) in live PS3-accelerated action, there was but one thing that stirred the whole MGS fanbase: The Grip of Death. Behold! Below is the screenshot taken from the 15-minute demonstration:
MGS4 Grip of Death

Words like shocking, terrifying and absolutely unsettling came into mind when we first saw Snake actually performing the move pictured above. It is, in all it’s painful grace, the Grip of Death. The new kind of CQC (Close Quarter Combat) move that players will be able to perform on our enemies in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It’s disturbing, that’s what it is. I know CQC always required you to be intimate with your enemy, but there’s got to be limits. Seriously.

If there comes a time when I feel like making my character grab another man’s balls and fiddle around with ‘em, I’ll stop playing immediately. I do not think it was the best strategic move in marketing, showing the GoD on the demonstration. I do believe that if I’d been the owner of some Kojima-shares, I’d sell them as fast as a I could shout “SEPPUKU!” in a grocery store in Japan.

What other moves do we get to use on our always-patrolling terrorists? The Hug of Needles? Teddy Bear Strangulation? Only time will show. Maybe we get to see more oddities and absurd moves before the release early in 2008?
