Advanced Mode On Eee 1000

I’ve been spending some time with my Eee PC 1000-baby, and I got to say I love surfin’ the web on this little bastard. But I had a problem installing the Advanced Mode:

The toturials say that you first need to run a sudo apt-get update, but it was then I got my error, saying:

Failed to fetch file:/tmp/.CqX86uoP/dists/tmp/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz File not found
Failed to fetch file:/tmp/.4pZPsSa3/dists/tmp/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz File not found

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

To remedy this problem, all I had to do was:

  1. Start a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T)
  2. Open the repository list (sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list)
  3. Comment out all non-Asus repositories; add a # before the rep-URL
  4. Save (CTRL+O, then ENTER) and exit (CTRL+X)

After that, I followed the Install Advanced Mode-tutorial, and it worked! Now I’m hard at work modifying my sweet baby when I should, in fact, study for final exams…sigh.

  1. I made a 10 point list of how to do it manually, but it breaks compatibility with synaptics. It can probably be remedied however. More later on Sigg3.net (Now a word from our sponsors..)

    MIDGETS! THEY ARE ALIVE!

Well, it works now, and I’ve upgraded to Firefox 3. I’ve also modified the Launch-button to a smaller Tux-one (gaining screen height when showing bar), and the keyboard layout is default at Norwegian (basic). The only thing that bothers me some, is videos in Flash, like YouTube aso…

On a humorus note: I thought you’d replied to the How-to Warm a Corpse post. I was looking forward to see that 10 point list!
