IE8 RC1 Released Yet Sucks At Acid

There’s been alot of layoffs from Microsoft lately. Too bad they didn’t give Internet Explorer 6 the sack it deserves. Well, here’s new features/improvements:

  • Compatibility View: A way to view webpages that’ve been designed for older browsers
  • InPrivate Browsing: Famously known as “porn-mode”, this mode will make you leave less (or any) footprints on pages
  • Improved Search Box: Microsoft have partnered (!) up with Wikipedia, Amazon and more to improve their built-in search box
  • Accelerators: Another feature that’s supposed to make searching/viewing maps/translate/whatever easier and faster

Download IE8 RC1: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/

The rendering of CSS in IE8 does now cover mostly everything in the CSS 2.1 spec, thus making it the last browser in the CSS-coverage run. Not surprising at all.

I’m no fan of IE, but this version is better than IE7. We can only hope that Microsoft will be more aggressive when it comes to upgrading from IE6 to IE7, then towards IE8. Though I don’t see it happening.

  1. You can also download Windows 7 beta. Or try out KDE 4.2 on your existing win installation.

Or skip the ordeal and head for linux.
